Location : Located at east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is bordered by the state of Kelantan in the north and Pahang in the south.
 
Area : 12,995 sq km and 225 km of picturesque coastline.
 
Climate : Warm and humid, average temperature between 26 C - 33 C. Monsoon season between November - February.
 
Time difference : 8H ahead of GMT and 16H ahead of US Pacific Standard Time.

Population : Approximately 927,000. Multi racial. Malay forms the majority. Others are Chinese, Indian and other community.
 
 
Language : Bahasa Melayu (Terengganu dialect), Mandarin and Tamil. English is widely spoken.
 
 
Religion : Islam is the official religion. Other religions are freely practised too.
 
Dress Code : Visitors are reminded to respect the local culture and to be properly attired when in public. Visitors are requested to avoid walking in public (town/village) in swimsuit or sunbathe topless or nude.
 
 
 
GETTING TO TERENGGANU
 
 
By Air : Daily flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Sultan Mahmud Airport, Kuala Terengganu by Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) and Air Aisia. The flights takes approximately 45 minutes.
 
By Road :
 
Self-drive by car - The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu covers a distance of 455 km via East Coast Expressway. Take the exit at Kuantan, drive along coastal road to Kemaman, Dungun or Kuala Terengganu. The journey takes approximately 4H.
 
 
Taxis - Available at Puduraya Terminal or Putra Bus Terminal in Kuala Lumpur.
 
 
Express Coaches - The journey takes approximately 7H. Tickets can be purchased from Puduraya Terminal and Putra Bus Terminal. In Kuala Terengganu, tickets can be purchased at Kuala Terengganu Tanjung Bus Terminal. Visitors can take either:

By Rail : No direct service to Terengganu. Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) or Malayan Railway provides services from Kuala Lumpur to stops in neighbouring Kelantan. Disembark at the Tanah Merah station in Kelantan and take a 45 minutes taxi driver to Kuala Besut Jetty or a 90 minutes drive to Merang Jetty.

The Largest Man-Made Lake in South East Asia
Located in the interior of Terengganu and spanning over 260,00 hectares, Tasik Kenyir borders Kelantan in thw West and Pahang in the South. This immense lake also serves as an alternative gateway to National Park.  What were once rivers, hilltops and highlands, the constryction of Sultan Mahmud Hydroelectric Power Plant has filled up the dam, creating about 340 islands., 14 waterfalls and numerous rapids. It is home to many many varieties of fauna and flora, abundant species of freshwater fish and exotic wildlife. Jungle trekking, obstacle courses, wildlfe observation, kayaking and angling are robust outdoor activities recommended.
 
 
 
The Oldest and Largest Cengal Tree in Malaysia
In the vast Pasir Raja Forest Reserve bordering the National Park, stands the world's oldest and largest cengal tree. Known for its remarkable quality and durability, The Malaysian Book of Records, estimated it to be 1,300 years old with a diameter of 16.75 meters at the base and grows to a staggering height of 65 meters.
 
 
   
 
The Highest Waterfall in Malaysia
Terengganu hass been famous for its numerous rapids and waterfalls. However, a recently discovered Chemerong Waterfall is the highest in Malaysia. It thunders magnificently down a 305 metres slope. Situated 30 kilometers away from Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah, it is surrounded by untouched, diversed riches of nature and wildlife.
 
Getting to the waterfall, the adventurous need to jungle-trek through nature at its best. Upon reaching the site, the coolness and the thundering sounds of the waterfall soothes the most weary travelleres.
 
 
 
 
The Largest Pheasant Collection in Malaysia
The privately owned farm is in Ajil, quaint from Kuala Terengganu towards Kuala Berang. Here on 1.7 acres of land, more than 30 rare and protected pheasant species are reared and breed. Among them is extremely rare Malaysian Green Peafowls. The farm has been certified by The Malaysian Book of Records as the largest pheasant collection in Malaysia. A visit here will be an educational and enjoyable experience.
 
 
 
The Longest Exotic Beach in Malaysia
The state of Terenggganu, on the east coast of Peninsula malaysia, is famous for its long strech of white, sandy and unpolluted beaches that span 244 kilometers from the northen district of Besut to the southern district of Kemaman. Facing the South China Sea, the beaches are breathtaking and its offshore islands enchanting. A haven for those seeking a good time in the sun, sand and sea.
 
 
   
 
The Largest Museum in Malaysia
Acclaimed the largest museum in Malaysia, the Terengganu State Museum houses century old artifacts and artworks of rich and colourful heritage. Located on 27 hectares on land in Bukit Losong, Kuala Terengganu, the complexes itself are an inpressive architecural feat, based on the designs of Terengganu's old palace. The complex showcases many galleries such as textiles, historical artifacts, crafts, royal regalia, Islamic arts, contemporary arts, weapons and petroleum development. At the main entrance, the original 'Batu Bersurat' of Terengganu is located which proved the acceptance of Islamic teachings much earlier than other states in the peninsula. The original old palaces and traditional boats are also displayed in the compound.

Traditional boat builders of Terengganu are famous for their skills that could withstand the test of time. These could withstand the test of time. These builders do not require plans or blueprints. They build boats from memory and yet produce intricate details and precision. The Finest Songket and Batik in Malaysia
Songket and batik of Terengganu remain a distinctive beuty for genarations as the craftsmen stress more on originality and quality. The styles are partisularly unique. The intricate designs and motifs reveal the ingenuity and crativity of the legacy of Terengganu, the inmatched arts that retains its originality over the years. Songket, which was once worn only by rayalties and dignitaries is a work of arts where traditional weaving technology is still being used to create designs of exquisite elegance, while batik is now recognised as a designer label and is either hand drawn or block imprints.

One of The Spectacular Fireflies Santuary in Malaysia
A recently discovered fireflies santuary in Yak Yah River, Kampung Ibok, provides another alternative attraction in Kemaman. Only a few places provide ideal breeding grounds for these bio-luminescent insects, especially around watery areas such as streams, marshes and rivers that retain moitures. Fireflies produces light via a chemical reaction of a combined enzym and oxigen. It is unique as fireflies are able to turn the lights on and off by controlling the oxigen supplies.
